After being postponed due to safety concerns during the taxi strike in August, the Totalsports Women's Race steps ahead through the streets of Cape Town on Sunday.
The Cape Town leg of the series sees close to 10 000 entrants proudly wear their pink event tees through the streets of the Mother City in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.
'It is exciting that the famous 'Sea of Pink' will be making a return to the streets of the Mother City this coming weekend. We look forward to welcoming the thousands of participants and we know all of you have been waiting patiently to take part in this celebration. The Women's Race is more than just a running event but represents the spirit of resilience, and raises awareness about a disease that affects a lot of women in our country. This event undoubtedly proves itself once again as the symbol of the power and endurance of women and the City of Cape Town is proud to be associated with the Totalsports Women's Race,' said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security Alderman JP Smith.
With October being Breast Health Awareness Month, extending the Women's Day running celebration to the new event date is deemed a perfect fit as charity support is an important pillar of the event.
As with previous events, the Women's Race proudly supports the PinkDrive's campaign and education about breast cancer as well as improving the services available to women across South Africa.
Throughout event day, PinkDrive will offer free clinical breast examinations and highlight the importance of self- breast examinations.
The event is guaranteed to be extra special on 1 October, as the race features on route entertainment as well as a live performance by sensational band GoodLuck at the race village.
The Route and Road Closures
The race will begin in Darling Street, in front of the iconic City Hall and loops participants through District Six, Gardens and back to the Grand Parade to the finish area.
To accommodate the festivities of this race, a number of roads will be closed on Sunday, 01 October 2023 between 05:00 until 13:00. Motorists are advised to take note of the temporary road closures and are urged to plan their trips accordingly.

The road closures will affect the MyCiTi service in part of the CBD.
The following stops will be affected during the road closure period:
- Route 101 - Lower Plein (Southbound)
- Route 102 – Darling and Hanover Street (Both directions)
- Route 103 - Lower Plein (Both directions)
- Route 106 - Groote Kerk Southbound
- Route 107 - Groote Kerk (Southbound)
- Route 111 - Lower Plein (Northbound)
- Route 113 - Groote Kerk (Southbound) and Darling (Westbound)
